Tomoeda Nozomi: Comparisons

An impressive show including works made from glass tumblers, air freshener beads and similar Transparency Sequence-Glass- show how two of the same tumblers can harbor subtle differences caused by the manufacturing process, and how even what we perceive from day to day as mere glasses can have myriad colors. Spectrum on the fourth floor was a tank filled with air freshener beads divided by color, surprisingly beautiful bathed in the warm sunlight. The beads shine in the sun precisely because they are “transparent” and though they look “all identical” in fact are not. Tomoeda’s exhibition demonstrated the kind of richness often concealed in the ordinary.
